Conversations with men
just barely fictionalized.....
I’m toying with (leaning toward) the idea of turning the memoir I’ve been working on the last three years into an auto-fiction novel (more on this later).
Something I’ve been having fun with is writing dialogue—based, of course, on real conversations.
Enjoy.
“Hey, do you think you could, like, not vape in my room?” I pause. “I read that the particles that vapes emit can be just as dangerous as actually vaping. Like secondhand smoke.”
Ethan looks at me. “Um, okay.”
“Thanks.”
Ethan looks away. “I feel like that’s… kind of unreasonable. I mean, what am I going to do? Go outside every time I want to take a hit?”
“I mean, yeah, I guess. You can open the window and blow out of it?”
“It’s like, 3 degrees.”
“Yeah. Sorry, I just like, am trying to take care of myself right now.”
“Yeah, no, I get it.”
We watch the rest of the episode in silence.
